Ford's Focus Electric is a clear challenger to the Nissan Leaf, and Ford's new design outpaces the Leaf is several areas. The most notable is the Focus's recharge time. The Focus's onboard charger is rated at 6.6 kWh while the Leaf's capacity is halved at 3.3. While this doesn't give the Focus an edge with a standard 120v charge station, a 40amp 240v plug will fill a Focus Electric's battery in 3.6 hours. The drastic decrease in charging time allows Focus drivers some flexibility in their scheduling; they don't have to plan their day around a single overnight charge. Yet the Focus is also more efficient: the EPA gave it a 76-mile range, while the Leaf is rated at 73 despite its slightly larger battery. The Focus Electric also has no space-age styling changes and is marginally less affected by extreme weather than the Leaf, making it more of an everyman's EV than its competitor. The Focus's storage capacity does suffer from the battery's central placement, and the faster charging time won't alleviate range anxiety entirely. The Focus, like the Leaf, comes well-equipped, seat heaters, backup camera, Bluetooth, and more. Call today to check availability or to schedule a test drive, as this excellent EV won't last long!
